Collection: Spinning Fiber
Petal & Hank's batts are a labor of love. Starting with raw fleeces, the process includes skirting, scouring, mordanting, dyeing, washing, picking, blending, and carding. These batts are truly hand processed and small batch. From single breeds to crosses, pure to blends, solid colors to gradients, each batt is unique and of limited quantity. This product will soon be retired, so the current offerings in the shop are likely the last of this line.
Petal & Hank spinning fibers also include braids of roving milled at a small mill in Wisconsin. You will often find heritage breed sheep in this lineup. The small fiber farm sourced wools used in this roving are naturally dyed in the fleece before being picked, blended, and carded. Fibers are brought through the mill slowly to retain fiber quality and create superior loft. This preparation is versatile and is especially well suited to long draw spinning a woolen yarn.
Combed top is the newest addition to Petal & Hank's spinning fiber. The primary base for this naturally dyed top is an American grown and milled Rambouillet wool. Rambouillet is a fine wool that is next to skin soft and takes natural dyes with great luster and saturation. A combed top preparation is a good match for worsted style spinning, but can also be processed into rolags or spun from the fold to reintroduce loft and move it toward a more woolen style yarn.
